Bowmont secures 3 new standing sires this Autumn

Bolong Variation: Variation was our pick of the bulls at Wodonga this year and the exact sire we had been looking for.  He is moderate and thick and has ideal cosmetics.

Allendale Collingwood: Bought in partnership with Bingeberry Herefords for $20,000.  This is the poll bull we were looking for.  He is moderate and thick yet still has the length and mobility we love to see.

Guilford Global: Global was purchased from the Guilford sale in Tasmania after a pre sale inspection.  He is being used over heifers and we believe he is just what we have been looking for with added cover and moderate frame.

Bowmont changes to a spring joining.

After being a predominantly Autumn calving herd for the life of our stud we have made the decision to change all of our stock over to a late September joining.  This has been done as a result of some careful consultation with many other producers who have done a similar thing.  The challenging Autumns and winters have made this decision somewhat easier.  Most people we spoke to say they have increased the return per DSE by as much as 4 times.  The main, but not only factor seems to be a lot less supplimentary feeding.

Average up at Bowmont Herefords' 2016 Bull Sale

42 of 48 bulls sold to $17,500, av $7400
Bowmont Herefords’ 15th annual on-property sale at Tatyoon on Monday was hotly contested. A significant lift in prices from last year saw prices peak at $17,500 and average $7400.

The sale’s average was more than $2200 up on the 2015 result, which stud principal Sam King said was thanks to the current strength of cattle prices.

Forty-five registered buyers filled the sale barn stands from Victoria and NSW and there were phone bids from Queensland.
